Medical Astrology Insight of the Day
Praśna Mārga – Chapter 12, Stanza 75
Classical medical astrology often connects particular
planetary placements with specific categories of disease and their underlying
causes.
🔹 Saturn in the 10th
house
Indicates afflictions attributed to piśāchas. In a contemporary
interpretative framework, this symbolism may be related to psychological
disturbances, psychiatric conditions, or influences that appear to weigh
heavily upon the mind.
🔹 Gulika in the
Ascendant or 8th house, aspected by Rahu
Indicates toxic conditions. Traditionally, this may include poisoning
through external substances such as fumes, vapours, or drugs. The reference to
the evil eye can also be approached symbolically in a modern context as
unexplained or psychosomatic disturbances.
🔹 Malefics in the 6th
house
The 6th house is strongly associated with disease and bodily disorders. Malefic
influence here is therefore connected with ailments such as digestive
disturbances, acidity, colic, and chronic stomach problems.
🔹 Mars in the 8th
house
Mars, being hot and inflammatory in nature, is associated with fever,
inflammation, and sudden rises in body temperature when placed in the 8th
house.
When Mars occupies the Ascendant or 7th house, the
text associates it with disturbances of digestion, including indigestion,
hyperacidity, and irregular appetite.
🔹 Moon in the 6th
house
Indicates illness associated with enemies, competitors, or opposition.
At a deeper symbolic level, the Moon's connection with the mind suggests that
emotional strain, interpersonal conflict, or persistent psychological stress
may accompany or aggravate health disturbances.
🔹 A deeper
medical-astrological observation
This stanza is particularly interesting because Praśna
Mārga does not restrict disease symbolism merely to physical pathology. It
also incorporates environmental, psychological, emotional, and subtle causes.
Thus, while the original terminology belongs to the
traditional worldview of the text, the astrologer may examine its symbolism
alongside modern concepts such as psychosomatic illness, psychological
stress, environmental toxicity, and medically unexplained symptoms.
The classical indication should therefore be understood as
an astrological symbolism, not as a substitute for medical diagnosis.
Where illness is suspected, clinical investigation remains essential.
