Both Jupiter and Venus, when exalted, are placed adversely from their Mūlatrikoṇa signs but favourably from their other signs.

• Cancer is eighth from Sagittarius.
• Therefore, exalted Jupiter is placed in a transformative and adverse position relative to its principal sign.
• But Cancer is fifth from Pisces, producing a trinal and auspicious relationship with Jupiter’s other sign.

For Venus:

• Libra is Venus’s Mūlatrikoṇa sign.
• Pisces is sixth from Libra.
• Therefore, exalted Venus is placed in a hostile or challenging position relative to its principal sign.
• But Pisces is eleventh from Taurus, producing gain, fulfilment, growth, and increase in relation to Venus’s other sign.

The pattern is therefore not accidental. The exaltation sign appears to place the planet in a position where its Mūlatrikoṇa sign undergoes a change in its ordinary mode of expression, while its other owned sign receives support, development, or fulfilment.

Exalted Jupiter and Venus: Relationship with Their Own Signs

Jupiter is exalted in Cancer, while Venus is exalted in Pisces. When their exaltation signs are counted from their respective signs of ownership, a distinct pattern emerges.

Jupiter owns Sagittarius and Pisces. Cancer is:

• Eighth from Sagittarius, Jupiter’s Mūlatrikoṇa sign.
• Fifth from Pisces, Jupiter’s other sign.

Venus owns Libra and Taurus. Pisces is:

Thus, both Jupiter and Venus are adversely placed from their Mūlatrikoṇa signs when exalted, but they are favourably placed from their other signs.

Jupiter’s exaltation in Cancer places it eighth from Sagittarius. The eighth indicates transformation, hidden development, discontinuity, crisis, inheritance, depth, and renewal. Therefore, the affairs represented by Sagittarius may not unfold in a simple or uninterrupted manner. They may undergo a profound change before their final results are obtained.

However, Cancer is fifth from Pisces. The fifth is a trine and represents intelligence, merit, creativity, learning, children, counsel, and the fructification of previous merit. Therefore, exalted Jupiter strongly supports the development and expression of its Pisces sign.

Venus’s exaltation in Pisces places it sixth from Libra. The sixth signifies service, adjustment, competition, conflict, obligations, disease, and the overcoming of difficulties. Therefore, the affairs represented by Libra may require effort, adjustment, negotiation, or the restoration of harmony after disturbance.

However, Pisces is eleventh from Taurus. The eleventh represents gains, fulfilment of desires, increase, achievement, income, support, and the realization of objectives. Therefore, exalted Venus may promote the growth, fulfilment, and material expression of its Taurus sign.

This does not mean that exalted Jupiter or Venus becomes weak or loses its beneficence. Exaltation gives the planet exceptional strength and capacity to act. The planet strongly influences the bhāva in which it is placed and the bhāvas it aspects. The relative position from its own signs describes the manner in which the affairs of those signs are expressed.

Therefore:

Exaltation strengthens the planet, while the relative position from its own signs determines the channel through which the affairs of those signs are delivered.

The Mūlatrikoṇa sign represents the principal domain of the planet’s authority. When the exaltation sign is placed sixth or eighth from the Mūlatrikoṇa sign, the planet’s principal domain may be compelled to function through struggle, adjustment, transformation, or a departure from its ordinary mode.

At the same time, the planet’s other sign may receive trinal or eleventh-house support. Thus, the exalted planet may transform or challenge one sphere of its ownership while promoting growth, fulfilment, or development in the other.
