Vedic Astrology & the Eyes
Alochak Pitta & MarsMars governs alochak pitta, the subtle fire responsible for perception through sight.
It represents the physiological mechanism of vision—the ability to grasp form and colour.
Sun & Moon
Sun: Right eye, vitality of vision, clarity.
Moon: Left eye, receptivity, coolness, and reflective perception.
Together, they symbolise the luminaries of vision—the solar and lunar lights within.

Venus’s affliction often indicates conjunctivitis, watery eyes, or disorders of ocular fluids.

They represent evaporation and disturbance of eye fluids, leading to dryness, degeneration, or chronic eye conditions.
Saturn → slow degenerative disorders.

Mythic Story of Shukra and the Eye
Shukracharya’s Role
Shukra (Venus) is identified with Shukracharya, son of sage Bhrigu, and the preceptor of the Asuras (demons).
He was a master of mantras, austerities, and possessed the Sanjivani Vidya, the secret knowledge to revive the dead.
The Vamana Episode
King Bali, guided by Shukracharya, was performing a yajna (sacrifice).
Lord Vishnu incarnated as Vamana (the dwarf Brahmin) to curb Bali’s growing power.
Vamana asked Bali for three steps of land. Shukracharya, seeing through the divine trick, warned Bali not to agree.
The Eye Injury
When Bali ignored his advice, Shukracharya tried to block the spout of the water vessel (kamandalu) with which Bali was to pour water to seal the promise.
Vishnu, in Vamana form, inserted a tiny straw or kusa grass into the spout to release the water.
The straw pierced Shukracharya’s eye, blinding him in one eye.
Consequence
From then on, Shukra was considered one-eyed.
This mythic injury became the symbolic reason why Venus is associated with eye diseases, secretions, and ocular afflictions in Jyotish.
A weak or afflicted Venus in a horoscope is said to cause conjunctivitis, watery eyes, or vision problems.

Physiology → Venus governs fluids, secretions, and ocular lubrication.
Astrology → Afflicted Venus → eye disorders.
