Kendras as Dwaras (Doorways of Existence)
First Kendra – The 1st House (Lagna)
Doorway of Birth / Entry into the World
Represents self, embodiment, and the soul’s arrival
into material existence.
Sun as the natural significator (Ātmakāraka) aligns
here, symbolizing the spark of consciousness entering the body.
Second Kendra – The 4th House
Doorway to the Womb / Inner Sanctuary
Governs mother, emotions, mental peace, and the
substratum of happiness.
Symbolizes the return to the womb—the inner source of
nourishment and rest.
Acts as the foundation (adhāra) of life, connecting
the soul to its emotional and maternal roots.
Third Kendra – The
7th House
Doorway of Union / Purusha–Strī Saṅgama
Represents partnership, marriage, and the union of
opposites.
The house of desire (kāma) and the merging of
masculine and feminine energies.
Functions as the gateway to continuity of lineage and
worldly engagement.
Fourth Kendra – The 10th House
Doorway to Akasha / Karma
Governs actions, profession, and dharma in the world.
Symbolizes the open sky (ākāśa)—the arena where karma
unfolds.
The culmination of effort, where karma is performed and
eventually exhausted.
Its cessation is reflected in the 11th house (labha
bhava), where fruits of karma are received and the cycle begins to
dissolve.
Kendra–Trikona
Sambandha
Mantreśvara’s emphasis: planets in kendras (1, 4,
7, 10) and trikonas (1, 5, 9) mutually reinforce each other.
This sambandha (relationship) creates Rāja Yoga,
blending power (kendra) with dharma (trikona).
Kendras are structural doors, while trikonas are flowing
energies—together they form the living architecture of destiny.
The kendras are not boundaries but thresholds—each
one a passage into a deeper dimension of existence.
They mark the soul’s journey:
Entry (1st) → Nourishment (4th) → Union
(7th) → Action & Liberation (10th/11th).
Thus, the horoscope itself is a mandala of doors,
guiding the jīva through cycles of birth, union, karma, and release.
