ASTROLOGY is a divine torch that can illumine one’s life. Astrology is a “definitive discipline of vitalistic cosmogony” envisaged by the Vedas and “is the calculus of human kinship with stars”. Astrology is a thorough-going “discipline that addresses itself to every concern of man” from birth to death. It juxtaposes comic rhythms with the biological rhythms in individual life and draws spectacular guidelines. Predictions concerning nature, character, emotion, impulse, habit, hypocrisy, intepredity, violent motives and such other intricacies of human behaviour are very difficult to identify because of the complexity of the social, economical and political conditions of the world today. The classical text we have are helpful in giving broad outlines only; but in the context of today’s need we have to fill in and read just certain implications through our intuition, experience and research. A comprehensible table to determine the positive karakatwas of different bhavas and the concerned planets is given hereunder in order to assess the complexities of human nature.

The purpose of the article is to examine the life of criminals and individuals who indulge in unethical patterns of life. Ill-disposed 1st, 4th and 5th houses and their lords with afflicted Mercury and Jupiter having a Mars-Saturn-Rahu syndrome notably in the 1st, the 4th or the 5th house are the factors in this study. The Moon denotes antahkarana (perception, inner mind), Mercury stands for intelligence, Judgement, an open and witty nature, the Sun denotes soul and character and Jupiter denotes Samyak Gyana or divine knowledge. These planets, when afflicted by Mars-Saturn-Rahu, confer hostile and contrary indications of the above traits. Under such an affliction the Moon may give a perverted outlook and evil habits. Mercury afflicted under similar conditions indicate selfish and mean motive, a peevish nature. Similarly, Jupiter afflicted by Mars-Saturn-Rahu indicates shrewd intelligence, ignorance, over-indulgence and conceit. Afflicted Saturn denotes mean and notorious character and inclination towards illegal acts in a secret way. Afflicted Mars is murderous, adamant, ill-tempered, furious and stubborn. Afflicted Rahu is jealous, vindictive, ferocious, violent, a smuggler, lustful and reckless in mood. The nature of afflicted Ketu is to find fault with others, causing harm without reason and always wanting to go ahead with secret plans of an obnoxious kind. When the 1st, the 4th, the 5th, the 9th and the 10th houses are involved under such malefic afflictions and the karaka planets are evilly disposed without any neutralizing effect, the individual may turn into a criminal, cheat, liar, ill-tempered, sensual, a thief, hypocrite and an out-and-out imposter and murderer. Afflictions on the 7th, the 8th or the 12th house may cause an immoral sexual life and it is further intensified when Venus is involved under affliction or is related to or influenced by the weak Moon-Mars-Mercury configuration. In the light of the above observations we may examine the horoscopes of some individuals who are leading unethical and intemperate lives. The attempt to study such cases can be neither complete nor exhaustive. Only some salient points are touched here and indications given for such unfortunate ways of life. Chart 1: Born 25-1920 at 8.26 a.m. (LMT), 22N38; 88E23. Planetary positions: Lagna – Cancer with Mercury and Jupiter; Leo – Saturn; Mars, the Moon and Rahu in Libra; Ketu in Aries; and the Sun and Venus in Gemini. Lord of Lagna, the Moon is joined by the 5th and 10th lord. Yogakaraka Mars is vitiated by Rahu-Ketu axis strongly aspected by maraka lord malefic Saturn. The 4th lord Venus is combust in the 12th; mean, selfish, greedy and a hypocrite of an individual. Further, Mercury, lord of the 3rd and the 12th, a functional malefic for this horoscope, located in Lagna with Jupiter who is placed in Aslesha and hemmed in-between evil planets the Sun and Saturn indicates an uncanny intelligence not guided by viveka (discretion). Chart 2: Born 25-10-1933 at 6.40 a.m. (IST). 22N35; 88E23; Planetary positions: Lagna – Libra with the Sun; Mars, Venus and Mercury in Scorpio; the Moon in Sagittarius; Saurn in Capricorn; Rahu in Aquarius; Ketu in Leo; and Jupitr in Virgo. The debilitated Sun in Lagna though he has obtained cancellation of debilitation is powerfully aspected by malefic Saturn and incendiary Rahu whereas the lord of Lagna Venus is in the 2nd in close proximity maraka Mars. Rahu is in the 5th house which gives a shrewd mentality to fulfill his own mission of grabbing others’ fortune. Jupiter the planet of wisdom, is located in the 12th and hemmed in between malefic Ketu and the evil Sun whereas the karaka of intelligence Mercury is joined with maraka Mars and as lord of the 9th is in the 6th from the 9th further intensifying the selfish, malicious mean nature of the subject. Chart 3: Born 4-5-1965 at 5.52 a.m. (IST). 22N38; 88E23. Planetary positions: Lagna – Taurus with the Moon, Jupiter and Rahu; Mars in Leo; Ketu in Scorpio; Saturn in Aquarius; Mercury in Pisces; and Venus and Sun in Aries. The subject (female) belongs to a rich and renowned family in West Bengal. Her grand-father was a famous writer and father, a big physician. The subject was born with a silver spoon in her mouth. Every article is at her command. But she has a peculiar mental set-up. The indication of lesbianism was noticed in her seventh year from the commencement of Rahu’s main period when she was caught red-handed. The subject is handsome and can conceal her real feelings and never gives out her mind. After puberty, she began an affair with a boy in the same neighbourhood with no social status. But this was all without the knowledge of her parents and relatives. She used to steal money from her parent’s safe in an artful manner. Everything was disclosed when she left home with the hooligan and got married on 17-4-1981 during Rahu main period and the sub-period of Mercury. Yogakaraka Saturn is seriously afflicted by powerful maraka Mars with reference to the 4th and the 10th houses, the 5th lord Mercury in his debilitation is aspected by Mars; there is the exchange of houses between the Sun and Mars in the 4th and 12th houses; the lord of Lagna, Venus, is combust in the 12th and finally the Moon and Jupiter are vitiated by Rahu in Lagna, all very significant in judging the indications of such a vitiated soul and mind of easy virtue in thought and deed. Chart 4: Born 6/7-10-1922 at 1.32 a.m. (LMT), 22N42; 88E23. Planetary positions: Lagna – Cancer, the Sun, Saturn and Rahu in Virgo; Jupiter and Mercury(R) in Libra; Venus in Scorpio; Mars in Sagittarius; and the Moon and Ketu in Pisces. The subject was convicted on charges of dacoity and murder involved in the Dum Dum-Basirhat case in West Bengal and underwent a long term of imprisonment but is now rehabilitated in social life. The Moon, lord of Lagna, is vitiated by Rahu-Ketu axis and afflicted by malefic Saturn and Mars: an unstable and infirm character and a victim of allurement. Mark the Dwidwadasa (2/12) involving the 2nd, the 3rd, the 4th and the 5th lords the Sun, Mercury, Venus and Mars respectively, very significant in this horoscope. The Sun and the Moon are both afflicted. Further the 1st, the 4th, the 5th and the 9th houses and their lords either from Lagna or Chandra Lagna (the natal Moon) are all afflicted by Saturn, Rahu and Mars indicating wrong ideals and uncanny thinking.

Chart 5: 5/6-5-1965 at 3.20 a.m. (IST) 22N36; 88E23. Planetary positions: Lagna – Pisces with Mercury, the Sun and Venus in Aries; Rahu and Jupiter in Taurus; the Moon in Gemini; Mars in Leo; Ketu in Scorpio; and Saturn in Aquarius. Mercury, the 4th and 7th lord and karaka for learning and intelligence, is debilitated in Lagna aspected by malefic Mars and hemmed in between malefic Saturn and the Sun indicating a violent and curious nature, a dull intelligence, a peevish and perverted outlook overwhelmed by evil habits. Both the Sun and the Moon are afflicted by Saturn and Rahu respectively indicating an unstable character and evil habits. The lord of Lagna, Jupiter is located in the 3rd, afflicted by Rahu and the 3rd lord Venus is combust in the 2nd whereas the Sun and Mars are involved in exchange of houses with reference to the 2nd and the 6th indicating deep passion, sensualism, ignorance, litigation, ill-fame giving rise to hostile relations with parents and even with kith and kin. On February 1980 during Jupiter main period in the sub-period of Rahu the subject committed a sexual crime (when he was only 14 years old) and left home with some valuable ornaments. The subject has served a life term sentence on charges of dacoity and murder. The Sun, lord of Lagna, is with the 12th lord the Moon in exact degree conjunction aspected by powerful maraka Saturn, malefic Mars from the 12th house (Mars however has obtained cancellation of his debility) and the 8th lord afflicted Jupiter. Lagna itself is hemmed in between malefic Mars and Ketu indicating a furious, violent and reckless mind. Planetary positions: Lagna – Leo; Jupiter in Libra; Ketu in Sagittarius; the Sun, the Moon, Mercury and Venus in Capricorn; and Rahu, Mars (R) and Saturn (R) in Gemini. This is the horoscope of the leader of a gang involved in wagon breaking, murder, manufacture of bombs, pipe-guns and all types of illegal secret activities. The subject is said to have links with a political party and is closely connected with some business magnets. He was a detainee under MISA. The unique feature of this horoscope is reflected by the 6th and the 11th. Lord of Lagna, the Sun, is in the 6th with the 12th lord Moon whereas Venus and Mercury are both combust in the 6th aspected by malefic retrograde Mars who is seriously afflicted due to close conjunction with maraka retrograde Saturn and incendiary Rahu, pointing to immoral life and means of livelihood. Jupiter, lord of the 5th, is otherwise unafflicted except for Rahu’s influence falling on him. The Lagna lord the Sun in the 6th aspected by Yogakaraka Mars (afflicted) and Jupiter in an Upachaya (moderately strong) explain the subject’s connection with rich people and top political leaders.
