Simplified Meaning

Sun (Bhānu) is considered the father of all beings, and Moon (Chandra) is considered the mother.

If, at the time of birth, the Sun is afflicted (joined with malefic planets, aspected by them, or caught between two malefics), then the father of the child is said to face difficulties or misfortune (Pitrariṣṭa).

Similarly, if the Sun is in the 6th or 8th house from malefic planets, without benefic influence, or if malefics occupy the 4th house from the Sun, the father’s troubles are indicated.

In the same way, if the Moon is afflicted (conjoined/aspected by malefics, or hemmed between malefics), then the mother faces misfortune (Mātrariṣṭa).

If malefics occupy the 6th or 8th house from the Moon, without benefic support, the mother’s suffering or even danger to life may be inferred.

The severity (whether it is hardship, illness, or death) depends on the strength or weakness of the planets involved.

Explanation in Plain English

This passage is from classical astrology. It teaches that the Sun represents the father and the Moon represents the mother in a horoscope.

When these luminaries are afflicted by malefic planets (like Saturn, Mars, Rahu, Ketu), the parents may face suffering.

The type of suffering depends on how strong or weak the affliction is: sometimes it means obstacles, sometimes health issues, and in extreme cases, danger to life.

Benefic planets (like Jupiter, Venus, Mercury when strong) can cancel or reduce these afflictions.
