Essence of the Sutra
Saturn (Śani) and Venus (Śukra) are ātma-sambandhī mitra
(deeply connected and friendly planets).
In their mutual periods (Mahādasha–Antardasha), they are
expected to deliver the results of the Mahādasha lord.
However, the sutra emphasises vyatyaya (reversal):
instead of reflecting the Mahādasha lord’s results, each planet asserts its own
independent significations.
Thus, in Saturn Mahādasha, Venus Antardasha will push
Venusian results; in Venus Mahādasha, Saturn Antardasha will push Saturnine
results.
Philosophical and Practical Meaning
Contradictory Significations:
Saturn = austerity, scarcity, discipline, detachment.
Venus = indulgence, pleasure, luxury, sensuality.
When indulgence (Venus) is attempted in an austere setup
(Saturn), imbalance arises.
Physiological Correlation:
Saturn = Vāta (air principle, drying, dispersing).
Venus = Kapha (fluids, secretions, cohesion).
Vāta dries up Kapha → imbalance → sickness or depletion.
Practical Outcomes:
Financial strain, resource scarcity, or health disturbances
often manifest.
The “friendship” of Saturn and Venus paradoxically creates
tension because their domains oppose each other.
Refined Interpretation
In Saturn Mahādasha, Venus Antardasha:
Venus attempts to introduce indulgence, but Saturn’s austerity restricts
resources. The clash leads to imbalance, loss, or illness.
In Venus Mahādasha, Saturn Antardasha:
Saturn imposes austerity upon Venus’s indulgent framework, again disturbing
harmony and producing scarcity or health issues.
The sutra’s emphasis on “vyatyayena viśeṣeṇa”
highlights that these periods are not straightforward but enigmatic—results are
reversed, intensified, and often contrary to expectation.
