वैद्यनाथदीक्षित's "जन्मजातक", elaborating on the conditions under which a bhava is destroyed, and how benefic aspect (shubhadṛṣṭi) can cancel such destruction. This verse ties into and completes the principle of triksthana affliction, providing the essential exception clause — benefic aspect can save the bhava.
"यद्भावनायो ररिपुरिफ्फरन्ध्रे,
दुःस्थानपो यद्भवनस्थितस्तु ।
तद्भावनाशं कथयन्ति तज्ज्ञाः
शुभेक्षितश्चेत् फलमन्यथा स्यात् ॥”
“If the lord of a
house (bhāvanāyaḥ) is placed in an enemy’s sign, or in the 6th, 8th, or 12th (iṣṭa,
pha, randhra = 6th, 8th, 12th), or if a dusthāna lord occupies that house —
then learned astrologers declare the destruction (nāśa) of that bhava. However,
if that house is aspected by benefic planets (śubhekṣitaḥ), the outcome changes
— the destruction is nullified, and good results may manifest instead.”
Textual Breakdown (पदच्छेद व अर्थ):
- यद्भावनायः — The lord
of the bhava (house under consideration).
- ररिपुः
इःफरन्ध्रे — If he is placed in the 6th (ari), 8th (randhra),
or 12th (vyaya) house.
- दुःस्थानपः — If a
dusthāna (6th/8th/12th) lord is situated in that bhava.
- यद्भवनस्थितः — And that
dusthāna lord is placed in the bhava under judgment.
- तद्भावनाशं — Then
destruction or loss of that bhava is indicated.
- कथयन्ति
तज्ज्ञाः — Experts (astrologers) assert or declare this.
- शुभेक्षितः
चेत् — If aspected by benefic planets (Jupiter, Venus, Mercury
(benefic), unafflicted Moon).
- फलम्
अन्यथा स्यात् — The result becomes otherwise — meaning: not
destructive, or at least modified to a better outcome.
Simplified Explanation
This verse says:
- If the lord
of a house is in a bad place (6th, 8th, 12th), or
- A malefic/dusthāna
lord is occupying the house in question,
- Then, normally,
the house is harmed, and its results suffer.
BUT — if the house receives an aspect from a benefic planet, the
destruction can be avoided or reduced, and good results can still
come.
So, the benefic aspect acts like a protective force, saving the
bhava from total destruction.
Key Principle Summarized:
Condition |
Result |
Bhava lord in 6th/8th/12th |
Bhava harmed |
Dusthāna lord in the bhava |
Bhava harmed |
But if benefic aspect is there |
Harm is reduced or nullified |
Without benefic aspect |
Destruction is likely |
Practical Example:
Let’s say you are analyzing the 10th house (career):
- The 10th
lord is in 8th house (dusthāna) — → bad sign.
- Also, 12th
lord is sitting in 10th — → again a bad indicator.
- BUT, Jupiter
(well-placed) aspects the 10th house — → this
saves the house.
- The person
may still rise in career, despite other adverse conditions, because of
benefic protection.
Conclusion:
This verse beautifully illustrates the balancing mechanism in
Jyotisha:
- Affliction
leads to destruction,
- But benefic
vision (aspect) is grace, which modifies karma, offering
relief and positivity.
This is a classic example of how Jyotish integrates both deterministic
karmic factors and divine grace (through benefics) into its
predictive framework.
