Sixth navratra- Devi Katyayani





In the nine-day Navratri Puja, the sixth day is dedicated to Goddess Katyayani. The day is also the last day of Lakshmi Puja during Navaratri. Goddess Katyayani form of Durga appeared as the daughter to Sage Katya of Katya clan and thus she got the name Katyayani. Goddess  Durga is also worshipped as Bhairavi and Maha Kali on this day in different regions of India.

In this form of Goddess Katyayani, Durga is both benevolent and malevolent. This is also a daughter form of Durga. She can bless and also destroy. She is depicted as having four arms and rides a lion.

Bhairavi and Mahakali aspect of Durga is worshipped on this day in western parts of India.

The day is also observed as Durga Sashti day in Bengal, Orissa and other parts of Eastern India.

Devi Katyayani Pooja Vidhi

The Sadhak who is devoted towards worshipping the goddess has to perfom the sixth day puja with rituals to please the goddess Katyayani and therefore establish Agya Chakra in his mind. Her worship done with devotion and faith leads to the attainment of Dharma, Artha, Kama and Moksha.
Worship the Kalash on the sixth day and all the gods residing inside it followed by worshipping the family of the goddess seated on the both sides of her. Goddess Katyayani is worshipped in the end with flowers and mantras.
Lord Shiva and Brahma should also be worshipped after worshipping the goddess. Lord Shiva is worshipped along with goddess Lakshmi.
The form of goddess Katyayani is radiant like a gemstone seated on a Lion. He arms blesses the devotees. Her one hand is in Abhay Mudra and the second hand is in Varamudra. She holds weapons and lotus in other hands.

Om sati Bhairvi Bhairo kaal  yam jaane yam bhoopal teen netar tara trikuti, gale mein mala mundan ki. Abhay mudra peeye rudhir nashwanti. Kala  khappar haath khanjar, kalapeer dharm dhoop khewante waasna gai satwe patal, satew patal madhye paramtatv mein jot, jot mein param jot, Param jot mein bhai utpann kaal bhairvi, tripur bhairavi, sampat prada bhairavi, kaulesh bhairvi, siddha bhairvi, vindhvansini bhairavi, chaitany bhairavi, kameshwari bhairavi, shatkuta bhairavi, nitya bhairavi. Jpa ajpa goraksh japnti yahi mantar matsyendranaath jee  ko Sada Shiv ne kahayi.
