Rahu and the spiritual effect it provides -it gets the kind of influence from the associated planets, as we all know Rahu is the shadow of associated planets or the sign lord, the shadow or image it will create will be in accordance with the influence it has. Example in 5th Rahu with 5th or 8th lord is a potent combination as it's in the mantra sthaan ( house) influenced by the lord of same or under the influence of 8th lord which represents tantra and end of physical matter or in other words end of the physical body. Such a Rahu as depicted can be very spiritual but as the nature of Rahu is of non-conformist it may not conform to traditions but is bound to explore the horizons more so like the exponents of the bhakti movement, the purpose here is that irrespective of the method it can get the desired spiritual progress provided it has the support of desired house lords. In mythology, I can remember a likewise character akin to Rahu that is Ravan who sacrificed his own head to lord shiva, in the samundar Manthan story Rahu being focused and intuitive could guess a plot of deceit while everyone else including the devas, was hypnotised and mesmerised by the beauty and nuances of Mohini avatar Rahu was the only planet that was unfazed to all this, therefore, it portrays the intensity and focuses the way people link Rahu to lust is totally out of context. Now he sat between the two luminaries knowing fully well that in between the luminaries it has best chance to be discovered and so it was, but in the meanwhile, it had already partaken the elixir thus the immortality but his head was severed off by Lord Vishnu for this act of transversing beyond the set of rules( the unwritten code ), but by doing it all, (a) Guessing the plan of action (b) being immune to surroundings (c) Sacrificing himself, Rahu attained the Highest supreme state and was thus allocated the status of Shadow planet it reflects the influence that is given to it. Rahu no doubt can be your best bet to spirituality l provided it's with house lords or planets which support spirituality.

It is observed that a strong Rahu is good for the above mentioned significations and weak Rahu shows just the opposite.

It is observed that a strong Ketu generally gives good result and a malefic Ketu creates lots of hindrances in life.Rahu and Ketu

Rahu and Ketu in the First House
Sutras 1-4: If Rahu or Ketu is in the first house the native's wife will give birth to a still born child. If Rahu or Ketu is in Aries, Taurus or Cancer, the native will be kind hearted and fond of enjoyments. If Rahu or Ketu is aspected by a malefic there will be marks on the face (probably of small pox).
OTHER VIEWS
Brihat Jataka and Saravali have not dealt with the effects of Rahu and Ketu in the various houses.

Phaldeepika: Rahu-The native will be short lived but wealthy and powerful but he will suffer from disease in the upper part of his body. Ketu-The native will be ungrateful unhappy, backbiter, and moving in the society of undesirable persons. He will have an afflicted body and will be deprived of his position.

Sutras 5-6: If Rahu or Ketu is in the second house, the native will be poor, will suffer from diseases of the body and loss of children, and will be of dark. complexion. If Rahu or Ketu is associated with a malefic the native will have a mark on the lips.

Phaladeepika: Rahu-The native will say words which convey double meaning. He will suffer from diseases of the mouth. He will be of angry temperament but rich on account of favour from the king. Ketu-The native will be devoid of wealth and education. He will indulge in vulgar speech, have defective eye sight and will depend on others for food.
Chamatkar Chintamani: Rahu-The native will face destruction of his family. He will be fearless but a liar. He will destroy his enemies to save his wealth. Rahu or Ketu in the Third HouseSutras 7-8: If Rahu or Ketu is in the third the native will have abundance of oil seeds of the type of mustard, til, sesamum etc. If Rahu or Ketu is associated with a benefic, there will be a mark on the neck.

Rahu or Ketu in the Fourth House
Sutras 9-10: The native will own many kinds of ornaments, will have two wives and will serve others. If Rahu or Ketu is. associated with a malefic, the native's mother will be in distress but this will not happen if there is association with a benefic.

Phaldeepika: Rahu-The native will be stupid, troublesome, short lived and seldom happy.
Ketu-The native will live in the house of others. He will suffer loss of his mother, land, happiness and grain fields. He may have to go away from his native place.

Chamatkar Chintamani: Rahu-The native's enemies will be destroyed. He will be powerful, virile and wealthy. Ketu-The native will suffer loss of reputation on account of his maternal uncle. He will own cattle like cows etc. He will be healthy but narrow minded.
Rahu or Ketu in the Seventh House
Sutras 17-21: The native will have two wives. The first wife will die and the second will suffer from tumour. If Rahu or Ketu is associated with a malefic the native will suffer from a disease called 'Ganda mala'. This will not happen if they are associated with a benefic. The native will generally have two wives but there will be only one wife if Rahu or Ketu is in conjunction with a benefic.

Phaldeepika: Rahu-The native will be of independent nature and will incur loss of wealth on account of his association with women. He will be a widower and will suffer from loss of virility.
Ketu-The native will suffer from humiliation. He will indulge in affairs with unchaste women and will be separated from his own wife. He will suffer from intestinal disorders.

Chamatkar Chintamani: Rahu-The native will suffer loss of wife. Ketu-He will suffer loss of wealth and there will be danger to his life from watery places. His wife and children will be sickly. If Ketu is in Scorpio, the native will always be happy.
Rahu or Ketu in the Eighth House
Sutras 22-23: If Rahu or Ketu is in the eighth house, the native will be very sickly and the life span of the native will be of 32 years. It will be of 45 years if Rahu or Ketu is associated with a benefic. It will be of 60 years if the lord of the eighth house is strong or is in his sign of exaltation.

Phaldeepika: Rahu-The native will be in distress, will suffer from rheumatic troubles, will have few children, will be short lived and will indulge in evil deeds. Chamatkar Chintamani: Rahu-The native will waste money on drinking and do cruel deeds. He will prefer the company of non-Hindus and enjoy beautiful women. Ketu-The native will be unfortunate and will live in distress. He will have no happiness from father. He will destroy his enemies if Ketu is in Aries, Virgo or Scorpio.

Sutras 29-30-The native will be blessed with children and be wealthy.

Phaldeepika: Rahu-The native will be wealthy and long lived but will have few children. He will suffer from ear troubles. Ketu-The native will accumulate wealth and will enjoy all kinds of comforts. He will get success in all his undertakings.

Chamatkar Chintamani: Rahu-The native will acquire wealth through non-Hindus. He will have happiness from children. Ketu-The native will have all kinds of gains. He will be fortunate, learned and well dressed. His issues will be unfortunate.

Sutras 31-32: The native will have few children and suffer from eye troubles. He will go to hell after death.

PLANETS

1. Sun

(i) The articles denoted by Sun arc Wheat, Gur, Red Cloth, silk,Red flowers. Red Sandal Wood, Brown Sugar, Musk, Saffron and Brown Buffalo. 
The animals indicated are Monkey, She-monkey,Kapila Cow found in Hilly areas. 
Tree of Tejphal is denoted by Sun.

The metals are Copper and Gold. Gem is Ruby. 
Colours denoted by Sun are Orange, Yellow, Brown and Gold etc.

(ii) The relations signified by Sun are father, nephew, friends and religious people or guides and sons of fathers’ sisters.

(ii) The professions denoted by Sun arc power, authority of the Govt ,professions connected with wheat etc. and with nephews, trades of silver, milk, conveyance, animals, property dealers, copper dealers and wheat grinding mill. Also professions connected with monkeys and with children will be beneficial. medicines which are to be used for heal, but narcotics, drugs and watery medicines will bring in loss particularly when Moon is posited in 10th house. Professions of white pearls, but the trade connected with pet animals and watery items will sustain loss when Moon is in 12th house.

3. Mars

(i) The articles of Mars are ghce, red cloth, red flower, red sandalwood, ivory, red copper, dal massor and chillies (red), sugar, sweet diet, honey, red sandoor, neem trce and skin of deer. The metals are copper or gold. Gems are red Coral and red slone. Colours indicated

are red scarlet and carmine. Animals are lion, lioness, Camel, She camel and deer.
Deak or neern trees are denoted.

(ii) The relations denoted are brothers which include elder brother of father, elder brother of mother, friends of children brother in law VIZ husband of sister, brother of wife, brother of grandfather and adopted brother of father etc.

(iii) Professions for Mars are of Ivory, snuff, skin of deer, doctor, medicines particularly used for belly, dal masoor, fruit, and property not connected with machinery, dry fruits, red coloured articles, honey and trade of sweet meals, red metal and sandoor, and trade of medicines which are not sweet. Professions connected with teeth,sword etc. will not be beneficial.

4. Mercury

(i) The articles denoted by Mercury arc Sugar, green cloth, flowers,green Moong, turpentine, camphor and music instrument, lead, ghosts,wine, roasted meat, alum, toys. sea shells and metals are silver andgold. Gem is emerald. The animals arc elephant, parrot, goat whereas

trees and plants denoted are banana tree, ban tree having wide leaves,cactus thorny type, green grass etc. The colours of Mercury are azure,blue, dove and spotted mixture
(ii) The relations indicated for Mercury are uncles, elder daughter,unmarried sister in law, elder sister, daughter or aunt, daughter of grandfather  etc.

(iii) The professions denoted are jobs connected with human skull,music instruments, fountain pens, lead, bamboo, flower, stationery,restaurants etc. literature, books, wine shops, ivory, sea she Us,diamond, alum. connected with courts, toys shop but professions of stock exchange and shares, gambling etc. will sustain loss. One will gain in profession if one helps his granddaughter, niece etc.

In case Mercury is malefic in the horoscope and if one stammers,the evil effects of Mercury will be warded off.

5- Jupiter

(i) The articles of Jupiter are gram dal, salt, turmeric, gur brown sugar, yellow cloth, yellow flowers, ladoos (sweet), saffron, kasturi,books, ancestral house, temple, gurdwara, dried peepal tree, sulphur etc. 
The animals are lion, cock, frog. horse, etc. 
The metals are gold,tin, platinum. Gems arc Topaz and yellow sapphire.
 Colours arc green or purple, violet and mixture of red and indigo colours. 
Peepal tree is denoted by Jupiter.

(ii) The relations indicated are children, sadhus, grandfather,father, father-in-law, head of family Or' dynasty, king. guest, old learned man and school master etc.

(iii) The professions denoted are those connected with articles of yellow colours, earth work, educational, irrigation, scents, snuffs, trade of costly and valuable birds, book seller, milk and curd business, in hilly areas, Pooja articles, gas and religious places articles, trade of iron,

white pearl. The animals are cow, bull, the plant is cotton plant. 
The colours are turquoise, pink, lemon. yellow and blue_

(ii) The relations of Venus are partner, wife, husband, married sister in law, brother's wife and women/man with whom one contracts illicit relations etc.

(iii) The professions denoted are the trades connected with women, perfumes, readymade garments, etc, business of potato, sun mica,, ghee, camphor, brick kiln, gur, gas, fruit, agriculture land Produces, copper wares, cow, underground vegetables and fruits, Cotton~

Pearl, white coloured articles etc. which will be beneficial

7. Saturn

(i) The articles for Saturn are black til, sarsoon oil, black mah dal,Musk, black cloth and black flowers. Black salt, peeper, grams black or white, chandan wood, palm trec, sagwan trce and wood thereof.Black insects, marble, cheel, kail wood, black surma, coal, black cow,

masalas of sorts, scorpio, reptiles, old wood, shisham tree, aak,crocodile, oil, soap, iron, foolad (kind of iron), tin, copper, artificial,fish almond and Colton seeds etc, 
The metals are lead and iron. Five metals copper, lead, silver, iron, gold jointly used are also denoted and are called Panch. Dhatu. The animals and birds are buffalo, black dog,and black horse. The plants are Kiker. The colours indicated are black, dark brown and Indigo. Gems arc blue sapphire, Lapis Lazuli etc.

(ii) The relations denoted by Saturn arc brother of father in law,husband of aunt, uncle and other like relations.

(iii) The professions indicated by Saturn are of Kikar, mah dal,Palm and dates, eye surgeon, all kinds of oils, marble, coal, Surma (black grounded metal used for eyes) Engineering, underground works and contractor ship, cotton seeds, also business of opium, charas, ganja,

8. Rahu

(i) The articles related to Rahu arc Sarsoon, Sword, horse, ivory,blanket, til, mixed seven grains, saffron, coconut and soft coal etc.

The metals are lead, gold, aluminium. Gems arc Ruby, Neelam and Gomed. 
The animals indicated arc black dog, elephant etc. and the plants are coconut tree, thorny grass ctc. The colours are black, blue and indigo.
(ii) The relations denoted by Rahu arc father-in-law or mother- in-law,sincere friends and in-laws of daughters etc.
(iii) The profitable professions of Rahu are business of Gold, sarsoon,lectures and Sermons’ to be adopted as business, big work and Contracts of electrical items, pet dogs, silver articles, business etc. But the business of coal. ivory, roofs of houses, raw coal, neelam,aluminium etc. will not be favourable and be avoided.

9. Ketu

(i) The articles of Ketu are sword, musk, blanket, till, sugar, saffron , mixed seven grains, imli, Iii, urinal, Pooja place, earthen  maund,rot, onion, and banana. 
The animals, and birds are sparrow, rabbit,donkey, pig, two coloured dog or bitch but they should not be of red colour, mouse and chhapkali. 
The gems are white and black two coloured stone, cat's eye and metals are steel and gold.
The colours indicated are mingled shades and checks, the trees are banana, imli

and till plants.

(ii) The relations are step son, only son, brother in law, nephew, son of aunt, maternal uncle, grandson, son of daughter or sister, son of uncle and second son of native.

(iii) The professions indicated are business of til oil, toilet articles,Pooja articles, cot, onions, business of piggery, donkey and sale of dogs, articles for foundations of houses, twin coloured

stone,  articles of luxury, children toys and banana trade. Sale and purchase of rabbits etc .
